The sea is calm, its surface reflecting a tapestry of starlight, as if the heavens themselves are guiding them. In days to come I stood amazed, walking through that forest, at the blazing symphony of color it brought forth, seemingly just for me. I grew to love my friend’s words in a new way, through the astounding beauty of the spectacle he knew was coming when he said them. I was young then, and didn’t know I had many autumns ahead of me.

Walking into a workshop, a clean, but well-used work area with low light, I see beams of light from an overhead source, perhaps a high window, with motes of dust floating around in them, between me and a straight-on view of a woodworker's workbench with a vise mounted on it and some random tools laid out from a job just completed. I see many tools hanging on the wall behind the bench, and stored underneath. A long well-cared for handsaw, a brace-and-bit, several different sizes and styles of wood chisels hanging in a rack together, a couple mallets and a good framing hammer, and particularly, a large well-defined carpenter's square.
