Walking into a workshop, a clean, but well-used work area with low light, I see beams of light from an overhead source, perhaps a high window, with motes of dust floating around in them, between me and a straight-on view of a woodworker's workbench with a vise mounted on it and some random tools laid out from a job just completed. I see many tools hanging on the wall behind the bench, and stored underneath. A long well-cared for handsaw, a brace-and-bit, several different sizes and styles of wood chisels hanging in a rack together, a couple mallets and a good framing hammer, and particularly, a large well-defined carpenter's square.

City birds
Southeast Asia. Modern day. Back out on the open plain, our bus hurtles toward the city. Smokestacks and temples rise up from the earth; two visions competing for the sky. The woman on my right holds a chicken in her lap; rural wealth for a city friend? On my left a Buddhist priest sits in quiet repose and presides over the world.
A biblical scene of Moses anointing Aaron with oil, inspired by the Book of Exodus. Moses, an older man with a long white beard, is holding a golden goblet and pouring oil directly onto Aaron's uncovered head. Moses is not wearing glasses, and his hands do not touch Aaron's head. Aaron is a man in his 50s with a full beard, dressed in ornate priestly robes with a richly colored ephod and no head covering. The oil flows visibly onto Aaron's head, beard, and garments. The setting is a desert-like environment near the Tabernacle, with woven curtains in the background, illuminated by warm, divine light. The scene reflects a biblical atmosphere with historically accurate clothing and details.

Southeast Asia. Modern day. This morning the sound of traffic in the street, scooters and tuk-tuks, taxis and trucks, was so loud I couldn’t hear my dream. So I turned it off and went dowstairs. Taking in diesel fumes ‘til it hurt to breathe, I found a hawker-stall and ate. It’s 100 degrees already; soon the rain will come.
